Vic: Navy frigate sails for new home near Perth
One of the newest additions to the Australian navy's fleet, HMAS Arunta, will today
leave Melbourne, where she was built, to be based at Fleet Base West near Perth.
The Defence department says the Anzac class frigate, named after a central Australian
Aboriginal people, will sail from Melbourne's station pier about 9am (AEDT).
The Arunta was built and launched in Melbourne at Tenix Defence Systems, Williamstown,
aqnd was commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in December 1998.
The Arunta is one of eight Anzac class frigates built as part of a strategy to upgrade
the RAN over the past decade.
